Philippe Malouin
After completing Industrial Design studies in Montreal and then at the ENSCI in Paris, Philippe Malouin was hired as an intern by the duo Frank Tjepkema and Janneke Hooymans’, better known as Tjep, to work in their studio in Amsterdam. He continued his studies at the Design Academy Eindhoven (Netherlands) where his graduate project, entitled Grace Table, an inflatable table, earned him the honour of an award at the Cologne International Furniture Fair in 2009.
In 2008, Philippe Malouin began to freelanced for the English designer Tom Dixon, where he collaborated on the conception of a number of furniture projects as well as on several substantial interior design plans.
At the same time, he set up his own studio in London, where he has been able to use a more experimental approach to his work, in parallel with the projects he undertakes with furniture publishing, most notably Campeggi. Only 28 years old, he has already joined the exclusive group of designers who work with Droog Design.
Philippe Malouin’s creations attract not only the press’s attention, but also that of Institutions and the international art market. The Italian review Abitare called him one of the five designers of the year in 2008; the New York Times singled him out as one of the talented young designers at design week in Milan in 2009; The canadian Azure review present him recently like one of twenty five designers of the future. European press have devoted a great deal of attention to him: Intramuros, AD, Case Da Abitare and Frame have featured his work, to name only a few.
His creations have been on display at the Gent Design Museum in Belgium, at the Rossana Orlandi Gallery in Milan, at the Fumi Gallery in London, at the Gallery Commissaires in Montreal and at the Plusdesign Gallery in Milan, not to mention the many Design Week — Milan, Köln, London.
